Leisure activities in Aix les Bains

The Aix les Bains Riviera des Alpes region offers a wealth of activities. Impossible to get bored, unthinkable not to have an excellent stay here. Here, between the lake and the mountains, there’s something for everyone.

The quality of life offered by our town and our natural surroundings has always been known and recognised, in France and throughout the world. The Gauls had already settled on the shores of the lake in their time. The first thermal baths date back to ancient times, when they were built by the Romans. The end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th marked the consecration of Aix les Bains, with visits from monarchs and celebrities from all over the world, who came to take advantage of its thermal baths and solarium, the mildness of the lake and the fresh air of the surrounding mountains.
In this land of well-being, culture and sport, your stay will give you the experiences you’ve been dreaming of.

Here you’ll find the city, mountains, nature parks, countryside, lakes… The mountain lakes, of course, but also the magnificent Lac du Bourget, the largest natural lake in France! The historical and religious heritage of our region, which was the Duchy of Savoy until 1860, is also important. The promise of a whole host of experiences.

Water is an omnipresent natural element.

As a spa destination par excellence, a spa treatment in Aix les Bains in Savoie combines the guarantee of quality treatments with a stimulating and rewarding stay. The traditional cures offered in town at the Thermes Chevalley, easily accessible from the hotel, are renowned for effectively delaying and reducing rheumatism. Close to the hotel, the Thermes de Marlioz specialise in treating ENT problems for the whole family. The programme of these cures lasts three weeks.
The same water, but different objectives, different rhythms, different pleasures… the Chevalley thermal spa offers a wide choice of short wellness cures, by the treatment, by the day or for a few days. Aqua-relaxation, aqua-gym, mini health cures based on a range of themes including relaxation, vitality or D-stress… In short, programmes designed to feel good.

Our great and majestic lake, so present in the life of the poet Lamartine, is a source of inspiration for everyone.
Whether you’re looking for sport or relaxation, with the family or with adults, you’ll be delighted at Lac du Bourget, France’s largest natural lake. Still very wild, only part of its banks is accessible by road. A large number of beaches allow you to cool off and take a dip in the lake from different angles. You can choose to explore the wilderness on a paddle in the peace and quiet, on a more fun pedalo or in a private boat, with a guide or on your own.
Every summer, the beach at Aix sets up a fun trail floating on the water.
For sports enthusiasts of all ages, water activities are king: water skiing, kite surfing, wake boarding, sailing, rowing, canoeing, as well as scuba diving and fishing!
In the neighbouring Parc Naturel des Bauges, located between Aix les Bains and Annecy, white water swirls around you, inviting you to discover the waterfalls on a stroll and also offering you the chance to experience the thrills of canyoning.
On occasion, go a little further than Lac du Bourget. To the north, you’ll be strolling along the banks of the Rhône. Or, in 30 minutes, enjoy another nearby lake: Lake Annecy. The old town of Annecy, nicknamed the Venice of the Alps, with its castle, is a visit not to be missed, as is the town of Chambéry, with its remarkable museums and historic monuments.

Do you enjoy taking the time to discover and learn new things through your travels? Explore the city and the many religious sites in the region. First stop: Hautecombe Abbey, on the north-western shore of Lac du Bourget. On an exceptional site originally chosen by Cistercian monks in the 12th century on the shores of the lake, the abbey houses the tombs of the thousand-year-old dynasty of the House of Savoy. Discover our religious heritage on the Chemins du Baroque (Baroque Trails), a series of routes revealing the architecture of Savoyard villages and the treasures of Baroque churches. In Aix les Bains, the Notre-Dame church hosts classical music concerts. Just next door, the Musée Faure boasts a fine collection of original works by Rodin and a floor dedicated to Lamartine. Themed guided tours of the town are available to discover the old Palaces, the thermal baths, the casino and its fantastic mosaics and stained glass windows, the Gallo-Roman remains at the town hall…

Is your getaway an opportunity to get some fresh air? Don’t deprive yourself. Fill up on energy! It’s all about authenticity and nature, right down to the magnificent Verdure floral park in the town centre, just a stone’s throw from the Grand Hôtel du Parc. The Esplanade du lac, the Petit and Grand Port, the Jardin Vagabond and the Gorges du Sierroz are all great walks, rollerblades and cycle rides along the lake.
Around the lake, a dozen listed sites offer breathtaking panoramic views of Lac du Bourget.
Enjoy the fresh air at the top of the surrounding mountains, which are within easy reach. Discover the Savoie Grand Revard plateau on foot or by bike in summer, or on cross-country skis, snowshoes or sled dogs in winter. A renowned Nordic ski area, it’s also one of France’s oldest downhill ski resorts, ideal for learning to ski and for beginners.
Do you like to contemplate the earth from the sky? Airspace is also a popular playground. Paragliding, of course, for exceptional panoramic views. And if you’re a thrill-seeker, take the plunge into the void with a free-fall jump over Lac du Bourget!
If you’re a thrill-seeker on a completely different level, immerse yourself in the world of gambling at the Casino Grand Cercle, one of the finest in France.

Do you love the outdoors and travel by motorbike or bike? The Grand Hôtel du Parc, located right in the centre of town, is the perfect stop-off point for motorcyclists in Savoie, thanks to its secure parking spaces. For cyclists of all levels, there are plenty of cycle paths in the vicinity. A specially adapted boat even provides access to a bike tour linking Aix-les-Bains and the Chautagne region. Whether by bike or motorbike, the passes in our mountains are famous, and feature every year in the Tour de France. There’s a wide range of outings to choose from, including vineyard walks, lake tours, viewpoints and remarkable sites… intense experiences in a local environment.

Air and earth… two complementary elements.
The only one of its kind in the region, Windalps offers you the chance to play with an indoor air flow at 200 km/h, giving you the same sensations as free-falling!
Natural vertigo, several via-ferrata sites of varying levels of difficulty dot the region. Climbing is a joy. The accrobranches courses at Le Revard for all levels are a great way to brush up against the treetops while discovering the magnificent surrounding peaks.

Meal at the LEO-PAUL restaurant, or in a typical restaurant or a Michelin-starred restaurant… perhaps on the heights with a beautiful view of the lake… In the evening, head to the Casino Grand Cercle, a historic reminder of the spa town’s splendour, before taking in a show in the magnificent historic Italian-style theatre. And end the evening with a drink, why not in the cosy world of Mr CHARLES.
